Here's some information about sport fishing in Costa Rica:

Fishing Seasons: Costa Rica has two main fishing seasons. The Pacific coast's high season runs from December to April when the waters are calm and offer the best chances of catching marlin, sailfish, dorado, and tuna. The green season from May to November is characterized by occasional rain but still offers great fishing opportunities, including for roosterfish and snapper. Popular Fishing Destinations: Some of the popular fishing destinations in Costa Rica include Quepos, Los Sueños, Tamarindo, Papagayo Gulf, Flamingo, and Golfito. Each location offers its unique advantages and fishing experiences, so you can choose based on your preferences. Fish Species: Costa Rica boasts a wide variety of fish species, including billfish like marlin (blue, black, and striped) and sailfish. Other commonly targeted species include dorado (mahi-mahi), yellowfin tuna, roosterfish, snapper, wahoo, and tarpon. The specific species you can target may vary depending on the location and season. Fishing Techniques: Sport fishing in Costa Rica can be done through various techniques, including trolling, live bait fishing, bottom fishing, and fly fishing. The techniques employed often depend on the targeted species and the preferences of the angler. Charters and Guides: To make the most of your sport fishing experience in Costa Rica, it is recommended to hire a fishing charter or a local guide. They have extensive knowledge of the fishing grounds, equipment, and techniques, increasing your chances of a successful trip. Many fishing charters provide all the necessary gear and equipment, but it's always good to confirm beforehand. Conservation: Costa Rica is committed to sustainable fishing practices and marine conservation. It has implemented strict regulations to protect certain fish species and encourage catch-and-release practices for billfish. It's important to respect these guidelines and contribute to the preservation of the marine ecosystem. Additional Activities: While sport fishing is the primary focus for many visitors, Costa Rica offers a range of other activities to enjoy during your trip. You can explore national parks, rainforests, and beaches, go snorkeling, scuba diving, or indulge in the country's rich cultural heritage. Remember to check the latest fishing regulations and licensing requirements before your trip.
